Wine Reviews
Ransom Dark Summit, 2005
"... It has deep, fairly youthful colour, a slightly leafy bouquet and generous, brambly, plummy flavours, savoury and complex, with a strong finish. It shows good personality. 4 stars"

Ransom Dark Summit Cabernet, Franc, Malbec 2004
"Their top of the range Dark Summit 04 Cabernet/Franc blend is powerful stuff, which will leave you in awe with its depth of fruit, spice and fruit-driven flavour, which hangs around long after the wine has gone down".

January 2007
"This is moderately dense and vibrant, with raspberry, plum, mint and red cherry flavours and a solid oaky influence. A backbone of fine tannins promotes a drying finish. An elegant style with some cellaring potential."
Bob Campbell, Wine Writer, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, Feb/March 2006
Ransom Dark Summit Cabernet, Franc, Malbec 2003
" ...is the flagship wine, made from a blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and malbec. From the deep red colour, savoury smoky oak, concentrated blackcurrant fruit and beautifully structured tannins, this shows its class from start to finish. And after the wine is swallowed, there's a fragrance of sweet-scented violets. Memories of summer for the winter."
Sue Courtney, Wine Writer, Rodney Times, March 2006
"Ask how much of the cabernet franc is really carmenère and taste the difference. This wine has brilliant colour, good fruit and mouthfeel, and it finishes dry. It is an ideal wine to try with the lunch platter at the winery as it is complex and complements the many strong flavours in the selection."
Peter Shaw, Wine Writer, Waikato Times

Ransom Dark Summit Cabernet, Franc, Merlot 2002
"… Has a ripe fruit fragrance that hints at black boy peaches, with gentle spice and a warm, earthy tone. Very attractive, sensual. The vinous impact (of the palate) has more of the ripe black boy character, with a deep vein of earthiness that enriches the mid-palate and harmonises well with the gently building tannins. Mid weight wine with considerable grace and a tail of gentle fruit, earth and mild spice. Very attractive, beautifully balanced wine. Drink from 2005 to 2015."
Keith Stewart http://www.sommnet.com March 2004
Ransom K Syrah 2007

Ransom Carmenère 2005
"...bright nose has a flinty freshness to it and a mellow wave of fruit aroma with some soft, savoury oak. Bright, juicy impact is blackberry ripe with a firm, fresh, supple mid palate that has both depth and flavour density. Tasty and fruit loaded, with a fine, brisk finish that lingers well. Very good wine."

June 2007
"...is deep rich red. Rich vinous berry aromas captivate the senses even before the wine is 'nosed'. It smells creamy, oaky and berryish... Cedary sappy oak in palate suits the tarry character of the wine, the tannins are silky but the structure is tight. ...smoky red fruit - plums, cassis and a deep earthy finish."
Sue Courtney www.wineoftheweek.com
January 2007

“…Their excellent chardonnay has appeared on these pages before but this is the debut for the Pinot Gris, named in homage of the abode on Valerie Close.
