The contemporary New Zealand architecture and captivating views of the vineyard and wider vista, plus views into the working part of the winery, provide a unique setting for intimate occasions at Ransom Wines.  Our venue has a special ambience and our aim is to make each occasion unique and memorable.

daytime functions

Ransom Wines is the perfect place for gatherings of friends, family or work colleagues to get together during the day in a relaxed setting to celebrate a special occasion e.g. birthday, wedding anniversary, Mother's and Father's Day, hen parties or even a small casual wedding.

Depending on the size of your group we arrange tables, either in the main gallery space, which has a fire going in winter, or on the sheltered terrace with its beautiful outlook.  The view is glorious.  The opening and closing "Vergola" roof can be adjusted to vary the amount of direct sunlight.  If the weather is not so kind the blinds are dropped, the roof closed and the heaters are turned on, but the view can still be enjoyed.

In warmer weather you can sit at outdoor tables on a large grassed area with umbrellas and picnic rugs, if you are looking for a more casual occasion - great for families with children.

Our food offerings are carefully thought out to complement our wines and served on long platters made from our own oak barrels.  The opportunity to taste a range of wines, combined with the beautifully flavoursome food and the quality of the presentation provide guests with a special experience.

The terrace can accommodate large groups of up to 50 and allows for, in effect, a private function.  The cellar door and winebar remain open to the general public during our normal opening hours.

evening functions

Ambient lighting together with an abundance of candles create a lovely atmosphere for dinner meetings, formal dinners and intimate evening weddings.

A minimum number of 30 people is required to hold an evening function and our location fee is based on the number of hours required and the nature of the function.  Bookings are usually taken from 6pm onwards.

Up to 30 people can be seated inside at one long table in the gallery; on the terrace up to 50 people can be seated.  Using both the gallery and terrace areas a maximum number of 60 people can be accommodated for a seated function.  For a less formal occasion we can cater for around 60 people with a stand up/finger food occasion.

We cater for functions from our winery kitchen in a fresh, flavoursome style using excellent seasonal and, as far as possible, local ingredients.  Evening meals can be buffet style served from the big table in the gallery, family style served from large platters down the centre of long tables, or plated meals for a more formal dinner.  The price per head is determined by the menu, style and nature of the function and ranges from around $60 to $90.  A series of sample menus are used as a basis for discussing and selecting courses, with suggested wines from our range to match each course.  These are charged at the current winebar wine prices.  We also stock beer, an in-house bubbly and non-alcoholic drinks.
