Product Description

Cabernet Sauvignon 47%, Cabernet Franc 34%, Malbec 19% .

Ruby in colour with an arresting aroma of black fruits, black olives and a hint of cigar box. The palate has an earthy complexity which is characteristic of Bordeaux-blend reds from our vineyard, with spicy, smoky, savoury hints. This wine has an elegance and balance which makes for an excellent food companion. Decant well before drinking and serve at around 18°.

Ransom Dark Summit Cabernet, Franc, Merlot 2002 – "…has a ripe fruit fragrance that hints at black boy peaches, with gentle spice and a warm, earthy tone. Very attractive, beautifully balanced wine.

From the deep red colour, savoury smokey oak, concentrated blackcurrant fruit and beautifully structured tannins, this shows its class from start to finish.

Their top of the range Dark Summit Cabernet/Franc blend is powerful stuff, which will leave you in awe with its depth of fruit, spice and fruit-driven flavour, which hangs around long after the wine has gone down.

…it has deep, fairly youthful colour, a slightly leafy bouquet and generous, brambly, plummy flavours, savoury and complex with a strong finish. It shows good personality

    :

Attractive wine with sweet fruit, floral, wild herb, cedar and spice flavours. Complex red with elegance and energy. Quite a Bordeaux-style wine though with sweet fruit and textural qualities of a Right Bank wine despite Cabernet Sauvignon being a dominant component in the blend. Serious red with good cellaring potential.

“The 2010, grown at Mahurangi, north of Auckland, is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, malbec, carmenere and cabernet franc. Boldly coloured, it is clearly a top vintage, with mouthfilling body and rich blackcurrant, plum, spice and herb flavours, seasoned with nutty oak. Firmly structured, it is very age-worthy. Hall marks of the Cabernet’s are immediate with dark red fruits, oak spices and bitter chocolate; a touch of violet and red velvet completes the bouquet.
On the palate – dry with a mix of red and black fruits, dusty tannins, medium acidity and brown toasty spices; this is the signature red wine of Ransom and remains my favorite from their cellar.

The 2011 vintage, grown at Mahurangi, north of Auckland, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (47%), Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Deep and youthful in colour, it has a fragrant, spicy, slightly toasty bouquet. Mouthfilling, it is savoury and firmly structured, with plum, herb and nut flavours, showing very good complexity and depth. Drink now or cellar.
