Just a couple of weeks to go before we start the vintage. This summer has, as most of you will have experienced, been very wet. Our rainfall records show that the January-February period has been the wettest by some margin, of the last 23 years that we have been keeping records. But it has also been warm and reasonably windy, so the vineyard is still in good shape. What we want now is warm and windy weather to dry the vineyard out, and it is looking like the next ten days or so, at least, will be just that.
Matakana Wine & Food Festival
This coming weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, the Matakana Wine & Food Festival will be held at Matakana Country Park. View the festival website here. We are sure this will be a fun and memorable event and would love to see you there!
We have had lots of new visitors over the summer, and new recruits to the Cellar Club – welcome one and all, and nice to catch up with lots of familiar faces as well.
The warm weather has meant a big run on our crisp and dry whites over the summer – Vin Gris and Albarino in particular. We have recently released the 2013 Mahurangi. This wine is based around the allure of Syrah, but with strong support from Cabernet Sauvignon, and a touch of Cabernet Franc. This combination has produced a rich and spicy wine, generous in its depth and persistence, and with plenty of time ahead of it, if well cellared.
